Prince Edward Is the Only of Queen Elizabeth’s Four Children to Have Never Divorced

Prince Edwards is Queen Elizabeth’s youngest child and one of the least spoken-of royals. The fact that he’s only been married once probably has a lot to do with his unique anonymity within the Royal Family. Both Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, have been happily married for over 20 years. These full-time working senior members of the royal family have a talent for staying under the radar.

Unlike the rest of his royal siblings, the 55-year-old prince continues to lead a quiet family life. Having been married to Sophie for nearly 21 years, he hasn’t had a single scandal anywhere near the magnitude of royal divorces. The two also have a teenage son and daughter who are always present at family gatherings but have not drawn too much attention themselves.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip welcomed Prince Edward into the world on March 10, 1964. As the Queen’s youngest child, Prince Edward is 10th in line to the throne. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1986 from Jesus College in Cambridge. After graduation, the prince worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s theatre company and managed Ardent Productions between 1993 and 2002.

Prince Edward has since fully assumed his royal duties and even took over a few of his father’s responsibilities in 2017 after he could not carry them out due to his health issues.

Sophie Helen Rhys-Jones was born in Oxford, England, on January 20, 1965. After she married Prince Edward, Sophie was under constant scrutiny in the press but always received support from the crown. According to Harper’s Bazaar,  she soon became one of the Queen’s most trusted in-laws.

Following their marriage in 1999, Sophie became involved in the Wessex Youth Trust, among other charities, as she assumed the role of a full-time working royal.

James Alexander Phillip Theo Mountbatten-Windsor was born on December 17, 2007, and is the 12th in line to the throne.

Both James and his sister have courtesy titles rather than official titles, a decision made by their parents. The Vancouver Sun reports the children were honored by having two lakes in Manitoba, Canada, named in their honor.
