You would think a high-level political conversation would stick to the major issues. But sometimes a microphone does strange things to a person in the public spotlight.
Vice President JD Vance sat down for an episode of the Joe Rogan podcast recently. He had a massive platform to lay out the vision for the administration.

The studio audio captured a truly bizarre obsession with dairy and political optics.
People expect a certain level of rivalry between opponents. And taking shots at Former President Joe Biden is totally standard practice for the current political climate.
But Vance completely bypassed the usual talking points. He ignored policy entirely and decided to focus on the way Joe Biden consumes frozen desserts in front of the cameras.

A simple scoop of vanilla suddenly became a deeply uncomfortable talking point.
He actually blamed the whole situation on bad staff work. He claimed the people working for Biden were responsible for creating what he felt was a highly inappropriate visual.
A speaker said, “The thing I couldn’t get over Biden is just bad staff work, man, the way that he ate ice cream, I mean, it’s like, you know, we could bring some of this stuff up, but it’s like they would get him eating ice cream in the most ridiculous, suggestive way imaginable.”
Joe Rogan was clearly not following this specific line of thinking at all. The podcast host replied, “I’ve never even paid attention to that,” to the completely baffling claim.
The internet immediately tore into the bizarre sexualization of a basic human habit.
Vance doubled down on his strange observation like it was completely normal. A guest noted, “Oh my God, it’s just such bad optics,” trying to justify the incredible weirdness.

But absolutely nobody else seemed to agree with this wild assessment. Critics online immediately started tearing the comments apart with total disbelief and heavy amounts of deep confusion.
Social media users questioned why anyone would take it there. A user asked, “Why are you sexualizing Joe Biden eating ice cream?” while trying to make sense of the absolute madness.
People were genuinely struggling to understand the angle. A critic noted, “The fact that his mind went there while watching President Biden eat ice cream says way more about him than it does anything else.”
The attempt to spin a simple snack into a harsh political attack was completely falling flat.
But the ice cream incident was not the only time Vance aimed for a weird target. He also brought up the time Joe Biden was seen falling while walking up some stairs.

He dragged out the setup for a very long time during a recent speech. And when he finally got to the ultimate punchline of the story, the entire crowd did not seem amused at all.
The audience waited for the grand finale but only found an awkward empty silence.
A speaker stated, “I’ve got the angel on my shoulder saying, ‘JD, don’t be partisan. We’re gonna make this nonpartisan.’ And then I’ve got the devil on my shoulder who wants to talk about every time that Joe Biden fell up or down the stairs, and the media didn’t care about that. But if I did it one time it would be a major, major story.”
This whole routine felt very Trumpian to the critics watching at home. And while they still find it totally cringeworthy when Donald Trump says things exactly like this, they see a difference.
Donald Trump and Joe Biden are both over eighty years old. Meanwhile, JD Vance is forty-one years old and trying very hard to mimic a style that does not naturally fit him at all.
Besides, with everything going on in the world right now, it is incredibly hard to care. The way Joe Biden walks up the stairs or eats his ice cream just does not actually matter.
