She stood under the bright studio lights with a warm smile. Meghan Markle was ready for her television moment. But the cameras could not capture the anger brewing off the set.
Cooking shows usually offer a cozy escape for loyal viewers. People tune in for the sounds of sizzling pans. Meghan wanted to be part of that quiet world.
The ingredients for a massive television disaster were already laid out.
She spent time teaching audiences about food on her own series. And now she was bringing that guru energy to a massive new stage. It seemed like the perfect next step for her.
The announcement dropped this week with a glossy Instagram post. Channel 10 revealed Meghan was joining MasterChef Australia as a guest judge. The network expected huge excitement.
They said, “The countdown is on! Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, joins the #MasterChefAU kitchen as a guest judge, bringing her love of food, entertaining and seasonal produce to one of the competition’s most memorable challenges.”
A publicist stated, “An entrepreneur, humanitarian and passionate home cook, Meghan sets a challenge for our cooks to create dishes that celebrate seasonal ingredients and the personal stories behind them.”
The studio audience smiled but the viewers at home were sharpening their knives.
The television event is scheduled to air on July 26. Contestants will face a unique challenge under her watchful eye. It sounds exactly like the aesthetic she built on her previous show.

A document noted, “carrots, Jerusalem artichokes, Brussels sprouts, celeriac, local Australian honey, macadamia nuts, quince, lemons, apples, mandarins and strawberries.”
She said, “What attracted me to the MasterChef Australia kitchen? Two things: my love of food and my love of Australia. It was an easy yes. It’s such a great show. I’m just really honored that I was asked to be able to be here with you and to be able to judge some of these meals.”
The carefully plated PR campaign was about to be sent back to the kitchen.
But the viewers did not share her enthusiasm. The comments section under the official Instagram post turned into a war zone. Loyal fans of the intense cooking competition were furious.

The anger was obvious when one frustrated viewer asked, “Can’t stand her. She’s not a chef. Why is she even on this show?”
Another critic added, “I think it’s really disappointing to see this person on MC when there are so many talented and truly deserving people who could have been given that opportunity. It’s a shame, really.”
The competition is finally getting down to the absolute wire. And fans are so angry they are willing to skip a crucial episode. The boycott is gaining serious momentum online.
But the backlash might not actually matter to the guest judge. Her appearance is already filmed and the huge paycheck has been cleared. She will simply pack up her knives and go home.
