Selena Gomez and Charlie Puth Give Steamy Performance of ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’

American singer, songwriter, and record producer Charlie Puth first gained fame because of the success of videos on his YouTube channel. After performing on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Charlie began to contribute to albums and songs for other artists, including Livingston Taylor, Cody Simpson, and Skizzy Mars. At the same time, he created some light covers of popular songs and some solo material of his own. His primary goal was a solo career, and he eventually signed to Atlantic Records and in 2015 released “Marvin Gaye,” his debut single featuring Meghan Trainor. Charlie’s mother was a music teacher who also wrote commercials for HBO. Charlie was a victim of bullying when he was in school.

When Charlie was four years old, his mother introduced her little boy to classical music and began teaching him to play the piano. At age 10, he began studying jazz and participated in the Count Basie Theatre’s Cool School summer youth jazz ensemble. The Count Basie Theatre ended up hiring Charlie to play in a production of Charlie Brown. When he was in sixth grade, an enterprising young Chalie recorded and produced a Christmas album titled “Have a Merry Charlie Christmas.” He went door to door selling his album and made $600 in sales. Charlie was serious about his music career, in other words.

While in high school, Charlie attended Manhattan School of Music Pre-College as a classical studies minor and jazz piano major. In 2013, he graduated from the Berklee College of Music with a degree in music production and engineering. Charlie co-wrote “We Don’t Talk Anymore” with Jacob Kasher and Selena Gomez, and Charlie produced the song and released it in 2016. It was written for “Nine Track Mind,” his debut studio album. Peaking at number nine on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in the U.S., it earned Charlie his second top 10 single and Selena Gomez’s sixth top 10 single. In Italy, the song reached number one, as well as in Serbia, Lebanon, and Romania.
