Elton John Makes An Audience Of 72,000 Sing Along To ‘Rocket Man’ At The 1985 Live Aid Concert

The 80s were a rather unusual time and if you happened to be around in the 80s, you probably look back on that era with a degree of nostalgia. After all, there were so many different things to appreciate about the 80s and some of the fads that were around at the time, from bullet haircuts to big hair to blue jean jackets still have a place in history that is appreciated down to this day. One other contribution of the 80s is music, and some of it was a spillover from the 70s but others was unique to that decade. In either case, you really can’t think about the 80s without thinking about Elton John.

When you think of Elton John, you probably think about his flamboyant style and unusual outfits. He was like the Liberace of rock ‘n’ roll but aside from the fact that he had an unusual style, he also had a lot of talent. Listening to Elton John playing the piano and singing was always going to be a treat and if you ever had the opportunity to see him in concert, you realize that he could perform live just as good or even better than he would perform in the studio. There was just so much power to his voice and his songs, especially when you are talking about a classic, such as Rocket Man.

Rocket Man is one of those instantly recognizable songs by Elton John and when you hear it, you want nothing more than to sing along with it. It has been that way since the song was released many years ago and you could see evidence of that fact when you watch the video at the end of this article. It shows Elton John performing the song in 1985 at the Live Aid concert.

When you think about what Elton John was doing at this particular moment, it really is incredible. He was on stage, playing the piano and singing one of his epic songs in front of a crowd of 72,000 people at Wembley Stadium. Interestingly, he doesn’t typically get credit for being in this concert because Queen and David Bowie were also there. Now that you see this performance, however, you may never forget the fact that he played at such a special event. Watch his performance in the following video:
