Heart Performs Stairway to Heaven Live at Kennedy Center Honors

When a musician has been around for a very long time, it’s obvious that they have a lot to offer to the community and to the world. At times, they may have even been on the cutting edge when they first started but it was the cutting edge that really took root and that is why they have been popular for so long. One of the bands that fall into that category is Led Zeppelin. I’m sure that you know quite a few of their songs, even if you aren’t completely sure who it is that is singing them.

Since Led Zeppelin has such a high level of popularity, it was only a matter of time until people were paying tribute. That is what happened at the Kennedy Center in December 2012. Led Zeppelin was used to being on the stage in front of thousands of people but on this particular night, they were in the stands watching other people play. It wasn’t just random music that they were playing, they were playing songs by Led Zeppelin. On the stage was Heart, and Ann and Nancy Wilson were playing along with Jason Bonham one of the most iconic songs from Led Zeppelin, Stairway to Heaven.

It’s interesting to watch the expressions on those in the audience as they listened to their song being played by another artist. They have played the song many times in the past for large audiences but now, they get to be a spectator. They were even moved at one point to tears.

Although nobody will ever do Stairway to Heaven quite the same way as Led Zeppelin, it’s obvious that Heart was a good choice to pay tribute to the band and to the song. Even if you didn’t have the opportunity to be at the Kennedy Center that night, you do have the chance to watch the full version of the performance in the following video:
