American Kids Are Developing British Accents After Binge Watching ‘Peppa Pig’

If you are old enough to remember the Beatles, Monkeys, and HR Puff and Stuff, you probably remember clearly what was known as the British invasion. It was a time in which British influence seemed to be quite strong in the US and as children, we were influential and we would pick up on it very easily. For some reason or another, all the movies and TV shows of that era had a child with an English accent, regardless of whether they were from the UK or not.

Today is no different and if you are a parent, you realize that there is a show out there that promotes that ‘English accent’ as well. In fact, the show, Peppa Pig is so popular and has such an effect on children, it is even being called the ‘Peppa effect’. Since children love to watch those shows on repeat, it really gets into their head and before long, they will be speaking to you with an English accent and calling you ‘Mummy’.

Of course, this isn’t going to be a shock for anyone who happens to live in the UK but it is happening in the United States quite frequently. Fortunately, it is absolutely adorable and it has a rather Royal appeal.

What you need to know about Peppa

Peppa Pig is an animated television series that has been around since 2004. It is targeted toward preschool children. The show includes an anthropomorphic female pig named Peppa along with her family and friends. Those friends are different species of animals.

One thing that you will probably appreciate about Peppa and those she hangs out with is the fact that they are always fully clothed. That can’t always be said for animals in nature.

In most episodes, Peppa is going to be hanging out with George, her brother and some of her friends. They don’t do anything spectacular, they just do normal things that any child might do. Perhaps that is part of the appeal.

Something else that you should know, provided you don’t already know is the fact that the characters on the show will occasionally snort. Your child just may pick up on that habit as well.

If you have been the victim of multiple episodes of the show, you might be interested in knowing who the voice is behind that adorable pig. It is Harley Bird. At 17 years old, she earns approximately £1,000 per hour to do what she does best, talk like a pig. Even though she is part of such a popular show, she rarely ever gets noticed for it.

Trends come and go and perhaps this is one of those trends. Until it goes, however, we can enjoy the adorable accent, thanks to a little pig that our children love.
