She Sold Her Dead Son’s Crib And It Was Returned Within A Few Days

One of the happiest times in our life is when we find out we are pregnant. There is just something about knowing that a little life is growing inside you that gives you the best feeling in the world. You may have heard about this but unless you experience it, you truly can’t understand everything associated with it. Many people who get pregnant are excited from the start but they still wait a few months before they make the announcement. Those are the most critical months and unfortunately, miscarriages are more common during that time.

It doesn’t matter when during the pregnancy you experienced a miscarriage, it can be a very traumatic event that has lifelong implications. Losing a child in this or any other way is something that no parent should ever have to go through but unfortunately, it happens all too often. It was something that was experienced by Valerie Watts from Cokato, Minnesota, USA. She was nine months pregnant and was all prepared for her son to be born.

She began feeling as if something was wrong a few days before her due date. Her baby was not moving in the same way and it turned out that her son had passed away just before he was to be delivered. The news was devastating.

Valerie didn’t want to get rid of the belongings that she had gathered for her son. The nursery remained untouched for over a year but in May 2014, she finally agreed that she would sell the crib. Keeping the crib was a painful reminder of the death of her child.

Gerald stopped by the yard sale and he saw the crib. He asked Valerie how much she wanted for it and they agreed on a price before he drove off with the crib in his vehicle.

Gerald didn’t know about the tragedy and he didn’t realize how much the crib meant to her. He also didn’t know that there was such a strong physical attachment and it was a memory of her son, who had passed away. In his mind, he was purchasing items that she was selling after her child outgrew them.

As it turns out, Gerald’s wife had talked to Valerie at the yard sale and she asked about her son. Valerie told her what had happened and the news was crushing. After they loaded up the crib and headed home, she told the news to her husband. That is when Gerald understood that it was something important to Valerie.

“We decided on our way home that this [crib] was going back,” Gerald told a local news station.

He also knew that the bed would not stay with Valerie forever, at least not as a crib. Gerald was a quality carpenter and he formulated a plan. He took the crib and transformed it into a beautiful chair so that Valerie could keep it as a memory to her son forever.

A week after buying the crib, Gerald returned to Valerie and gave her the gift. The crib had not been used and it was a painful reminder of her son. Now that it was transformed into a beautiful chair, it could always stay with her in the home and in her heart.

It goes without saying that Valerie was overcome with joy because of this kind gesture on the part of a stranger.
