Adam Sandler Storms Out Of Oscars After Being Singled Out For ‘Inappropriate’ Outfit

It always seems as if there is some type of controversy happening at any award show. It also happened in 2025, and it was an interchange between Conan O’Brien, who was the host of the Oscars, and Adam Sandler.

One of the things that the Academy Awards are known for is the style of dress that people wear. Many of the celebrities hit the red carpet wearing their very best, and it comes to be expected from anyone in attendance.

This year, there were plenty of people on the red carpet who were wearing their best, and they were looking fantastic. There was a lot of sparkling glitz along with custom suits and sweeping gowns.

Adam Sandler, however, must’ve missed the memo.

When O’Brien, who was hosting the 2025 Oscars stood on stage, he singled out Adam Sandler by saying: “For such a prestigious night, it’s important that everyone is properly dressed, okay? You’re dressed well…Adam…”

It happened during the opening monologue of the Academy Awards when O’Brien decided to get some attention by pointing the cameras at Sandler. He was in the audience, surrounded by people wearing their very best Oscars outfits but he didn’t fit in.

58-year-old Sandler said: “Conan, what’s up my brother?” He was sitting in an aisle seated time with a bright blue sweatshirt and the hood pulled over his head. He was also wearing some gym shorts and Steph Curry kicks.

He asked: “What’s going on, man?”

O’Brien then gave Sandler a hard time about what he was wearing. In response, Sandler simply said: “Nobody even thought about what I was wearing until you brought it up.”

O’Brien then took things to the next level, saying: “You’re dressed like a guy playing video poker at 2 a.m., Adam.”

Sandler then stood up and defended himself. He said: “You know what, I like the way I look, because I’m a good person. I don’t care about what I wear or what I don’t wear. If my snazzy gym shorts and fluffy sweatshirt offend you so much that you had to mock me in front of my peers…”

O’Brien then apologized, and you could tell at this point that he was really hamming it up. Sandler was also doing his part, storming out of the audience and letting them know that he was leaving.

As the crowd shouted for him to say, he joked: “No, it’s not you, it’s him.”

It may not be exactly an Oscars slap, but it is something to remember.
