They sometimes say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Perhaps the same thing can be said about comedy.
If there’s one thing we know about comedians, it’s the fact that they are going to step on some toes from time to time. This includes a comedian by the name of Heather McDonald, who was in the middle of a comedy routine and had an incident.
Some people say that Heather crossed over some type of line when she made a joke about Jesus. In reality, the joke really was not in that poor of taste and many people would argue, who gave us a sense of humor in the first place?
Then again, there were some people who felt as if she was struck down by a heavenly force because of her joke. They felt as if it was some sort of universal justice, and there were some who capitalized on it.
McDonald made the joke that she had all of her boosters and went on to discuss some other immunizations that she had. She then said that she went on a plane trip and visited Mexico during the height of COVID and never got sick.
She then made the statement: “Clearly, Jesus loves me most.”
Suddenly, she started to lose control and she fell over backward, hitting her head on the stage and going into convulsions. She even had a serious concussion from the fall. It was deemed to be dehydration.
Honestly, I don’t think that many people would argue that she told a joke that was that far out of line. All you have to do is turn on the TV for a few minutes and you’re going to hear things that are far worse.
At the same time, however, a preacher by the name of Ray Comfort decided that he would make a video that discussed the true essence of Jesus’ love. He used this incident as a springboard for his own platform.
This is when we get back to the fact that comedy is in the eye of the beholder. Did she go so far that she deserved some type of divine justice, falling down, cracking her skull, and all because she was struck down by a God of love?
It is interesting, and there is a lot to be learned on both sides of the fence. In the end, however, it really is up to the person to decide if what she said was funny or if it deserves some type of divine retribution.
Thankfully, she is doing ok. You can watch the incident in this video:
