Trans-Gender Men Are Giving Birth So Say Goodbye To Mother’s Day

I think that most of us would agree there are certain days of the year that we just had to look forward to. For many of us, one of those days is Mother’s Day but if some people had their way, it would no longer be called by the same name.

The primary reason why they are considering even the remote possibility of changing the name of Mother’s Day is thanks to a man named Norrie May-Welby. He underwent gender reassignment surgery when he was 28 years old and he feels that the term mother is not limited to women any longer. He said: “‘I believe that mothering is an instinct in all mammals, regardless of biological Gender.”

In 2014, Norrie won a High Court battle in New South Wales so that they would not classify them as either a male or female.

The unanimous ruling by the court said that the registry of births, deaths, marriages could say that somebody’s gender was nonspecific. Norrie works along with this, and is trying to start a debate so that Mother’s Day would be renamed.

Norrie said: “Mother’ is a verb. One can be mothering without being a biological birther. And Mother’s Day, before Hallmark hijacked it, was Mothering Sunday, when one returned to the church one was baptised in.”

The proposal is that the day would be renamed as ‘Nurturers Day’ so That Nobody Would Be Offended.

Norrie continued: “Of course language shifts with time and place, and it may become Nurturer’s Day, but that’s an extra syllable, and for now, I am happy with ‘Mother’s Day’”

They continued: “Of course, with the ascendance of the Pentecostals in politics, it may become Legally Compelled Incubators Day, but I’ve got to hope that this criminal appropriation of women’s bodies does not become entrenched.”

It will be interesting to see where this one goes next.
