Warnings Being Issued After Huge Asian Hornet Nest Is Found In An Abandoned House

The small town of St Brelades is a quiet and beautiful area located on the Channel Island in the UK. Not much goes on in the town but recently, something was found that has people talking.

A large Asian Hornet’s nest was found in an abandoned house in the area. Many of the locals are now concerned over the invasive species being found nearby, and scientists have their concerns as well.

Since the hornet’s nest was discovered, it is thought that there may be more in the area so people are asked to be watchful for their safety. They also want to ensure that the species is not found elsewhere in the UK.

Asian hornet nests have been found elsewhere in the area, including in Jersey. That is when the largest of those nests was found, which measures at about 15 inches.

The area is considered to be the front line in the fight against the invasive Asian Hornet. There were approximately 1500 hornets inside the nest that was attached to the ceiling of the abandoned home.

So far, 171 Hornet nests have been found this year. That is considerably up from the 71 that were found by this time last year. They feel that it may be practically impossible to keep them from spreading.

The Asian Hornet it is native to Southeast Asia but in recent years, many other parts of the world have seen the invasion of the species. If the hornet population is unable to be reduced, the ecosystem in the area will suffer.

In addition to other damage that may be caused, they attack bees, reducing the local honeybee population significantly. They can also attack humans aggressively.

The first time they were found in Europe was in France. It is thought that they may have arrived on a ship and the nest was hidden somewhere inside.

Since arriving, they have progressively spread across Europe, with some areas being of particular concern.

It’s important to understand what to do if you are in a situation with Asian hornets. They are frequently found in areas such as houses, shrubs, trees, and orchards. If they can find a warm place during the winter months, they will prioritize it.

If you do find a nest, don’t disturb or remove it. Report the location to the local authorities, as they will notify those who have the experience to handle the situation properly.

You should also avoid provoking the Hornets or getting too close to the nest. If they feel the need to defend their nest, they will act aggressively and they have very painful stings.

Protect your property by sealing any cracks or openings that may allow the Hornets to enter into your home. If you feel that a hornet’s nest is located on your property, call the professionals.
