Most of us give at least a little consideration to what we are going to wear for the day. At times, we may think about it more than others and in the process, we might even raise some eyebrows.
There is a 61-year-old engineer in Germany named Mark Bryan who is challenging gender stereotypes with the choices he makes. Rather than wearing traditional male clothing to the workplace, he wears skirts and high heels.
Mark is not alone in his efforts to reclaim that popular type of shoe for men. After all, they were originally intended for men when they were first created in the 10th century. Apparently, that is not the case any longer.
Not only is Mark challenging those stereotypes with the clothing he wears, but he also has a challenging career as a robotics engineer. In addition, he has three children and he cares for them very much.
When you look at him, you would not immediately think that he was a man who would have a social media following for wearing skirts and high heels. After he started posting pictures online, however, he quickly gained hundreds of thousands of followers.
Of course, he isn’t just doing this to look different, he actually looks like he is playing the part when he wears the unusual garb. He is just a man who was tired of the stereotypes and felt the clothing should not have a gender associated with them.
Despite the fact that he does wear skirts and high heels, he tries to dress more masculine from the waist up. The skirts do provide a significant amount of variety in comparison to the pants that men usually wear.
Although he has a lot of people who follow him online, his daughter is one of his biggest fans. Of course, this may be somewhat self-serving because she is hoping to borrow his clothing someday. Even his wife supports him in his choices and helps him to pick out the right outfit.
As you can imagine, there have been some negative comments but he takes them in stride. He isn’t hoping to change the world, he is just hoping to make a statement that will bring about the change she desires.
