Use This Genius Shadow Drawing Project To Keep Your Kids Busy And Happy This Summer

Most of us remember enjoying the summer months when we were out of school. It was a carefree time, full of lots of fun and excitement. At least that’s how we remember it. In reality, we had the same problem that many of our children’s have today, trying to stay busy enough that you are not bored. Not only is it a problem for kids, but it’s also a problem for their parents as well.

If you are looking for a way to keep your kids busy and happy this summer, then we have just the project for you. The project comes from a childcare center, Above and Beyond and you might wonder why you never thought of it before. It’s more than just a way to keep your kids busy, it gets them out in the sunshine and provides a creative outlet so they are not just getting screen time all summer long. What is it? It’s a project known as ‘shadow drawing’ and you are going to be amazed with what it has to offer.

This project for kids was introduced on the Above and Beyond, Te Puna Facebook page:

The project involves setting up fun toys, such as animals and having the shadow from the animal cast onto a piece of paper.

When you use the sun to cast the shadow, it will be much better. That’s really all there is to it, it’s instant fun for all children.

If you are looking for some inspiration as to how to implement this in your family, be sure to check out Instagram and some of the kids that are already having fun with it.

Rachel Drew shared this picture of a boy drawing a dinosaur from a shadow:

You aren’t limited to animal figurines, small blocks and other items can also be used to sketch.

Here’s another option from a post by Noor Al Marsi:

If you want to take things to the next level, use kids to cast a shadow onto the concrete or asphalt. They can then be sketched using chalk, as you can see in this Instagram picture:

This seems to be an activity that all kids are going to appreciate. Get your kids outside this summer in the fresh air and get started.

Some celebrity parents are also talking about spending time outdoors with their kids and bonding.

This was seen when Kate Middleton wrote a letter to the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices. She said: “Spending quality time together is such an important aspect of family life and as for me, as a mother, it is the simple family moments like playing outside together that I cherish.”

Britney Spears also enjoys spending some time with her boys doing crafts on a summer day:

Summertime has always been a wonderful time of year for families. If you like these outdoor projects and are considering trying them for yourself, then shadow drawing may be a great place to start.

You might also enjoy trying making some rock art or taking a walk in nature to watch the birds.

If you are looking for another idea, you can always paint with water on the sidewalk. It’s loads of fun and is less messy than chalk.

There is even an invisible spray for the sidewalk that disappears when it gets wet.

A 2-ounce starter kit can be purchased for $19. You can buy a 16-ounce bottle for $130, and you won’t be disappointed with the fun it brings.
