These Unusual ‘Bunny Ear’ Succulents Are A Great Addition To Your Garden

Are you tired of the same old boring plants and want something new and unique to plant? Or maybe you like the idea of having a garden, but don’t have space for one? Then succulents could be the perfect plant for you.

And what’s better than succulents? Why bunny ear succulents, of course! These adorable little plants are called Monilaria obconcia, and when they are in their growing stage, they look just like a tiny little green bunny head, with bunny ears to match!

Just look at those cute little things! These little green guys have become all the rage in Japan, where they fit squarely into the culture of kawaii (cute) that the country is so enamored with.

And just when you thought they couldn’t get any cuter, the succulents are covered with fine fuzz, which actually helps the plants store moisture and water, but also has the added benefit of being TOTES-ADORBS!

However, the plants don’t keep their bunny ears for long, but their cuteness still remains. As they grow, the “ears” grow longer. Best of all they could even spout gorgeous daisy-shaped white flowers if you take really good care of them!

The best time to plant these succulents is in the colder months, and they can grow up to eight inches tall.

If you plan on putting these cute little greenies in your garden, take note, that they need to be watered minimally during the summer and more often during the winter.

You should also avoid planting them in direct sunlight since the Monilaria generally grows under rocks and in the shade of larger plants in the wild. If you’re hoping to make your succulents flower, it’s best to put each plant in smaller pots, since they generally don’t grow as well in larger containers.

These plants caused a joyous uproar on the internet when Japanese Twitter user @celeley1128 shared some photos of the Monilaria in all their bunny-eared glory. Since then, the images have gotten around 30,000 retweets and comments.

“The more you look at it, the cuter it is,” squealed one excited succulent enthusiast.

Another pointed out,  “They’re not just pulling one peace sign, they’re using a double peace-sign, which makes them even cuter!”

If you think you would like to plant some of these cute little plants in your garden, you can order a packet of seeds on Amazon for around $8 and start your own tiny green bunny farm!
