Two Food Giants Meet As Anthony Bourdain Pays A Visit To Chef Gordon Ramsay’s Restaurant In London

Chef Gordan Ramsey is perhaps the most famous chef in the world. His show, Hell’s Kitchen, took us inside the world of chefs in a way that’s never been done before. Ramsey plays the role of a ruthless drill instructor, as he ruthlessly pics apart every meal while using extremely hostile language toward the chefs who prepare them. In fact, today, Ramsey’s show is far more hostile than most military basic training programs (language-wise). On his show, Ramsey liberally uses F-bombs and other theatrics like smashing plates to intimidate and push aspiring chefs to present their very best meals. However, it wasn’t that long ago that he was once a chef in the hot seat.

A few years ago, around 2000, before Hell’s Kitchen, Ramsey ran his own restaurant in London, England, called “Restuarant Gordon Ramsey.” On a show that pre-dates No Reservations, world-renowned food critic Anthony Bourdain decided to pay a little visit to Gordon’s restaurant and do a televised review of his food. At this time, Ramsey was a hot-up-in-coming chef who was chasing his third Michelin star. As Bourdain awaited the first course at his table, cameras were in the kitchen as Ramsey directed his chefs in preparing Bourdain’s meal. Already, you could see flashes of the man most people would get to know through Hell’s Kitchen.

Bourdain described his meal as one of the best of his life, praising every course for its a wonderful flavor and how it seemed to guide his emotions as though the food was telling a story.
