There have always been singers that have had an influence on us, regardless of whether it is one that we heard as a young child or one that we listen to as an adult. The type of music that we listen to may change as we age but the effect is much the same. When we hear a certain song, it can put a smile on our face, regardless of how we were feeling. It may also be inspiring, helping to push us to a level that we may never have thought possible or perhaps allowing us to focus on what we are doing. Although music has always had that effect on us, there are certain performers that seem to be able to do so to an even greater level.
One of the performers that has been popular in recent times is Sam Smith. He has a number of songs out that are worthy of note but his number one track is a megahit, “Stay with Me”. From the moment that it comes on the radio, it is instantly recognizable but if you haven’t heard him performing it live, you really are missing out on something special. Sam Smith is one of those performers that doesn’t need technology to make himself sound better. There is no autotune and his music sounds even better live than it does out of the studio. That becomes evident when you see him performing that song at the BBC One Studio, and it is absolutely amazing to see.
Although performers, such as Sam Smith, are accustomed to standing in front of thousands of people, the intimacy of a smaller venue really helps to shine the spotlight on their abilities. Rather than singing for a group of nameless faces, it somehow changes to make it seem they are performing almost one on one.
