I’ve never had children of my own, and to be honest, becoming a parent wasn’t a goal I had for my life. I’ve always loved children and I have a brother 15 years younger than me, but I never felt the need to have my own kids. When I met my wife, she had two children and was fine with not having more, so I became a happy stepfather. To my surprise, I really took to it. I loved having a family already built-in and I can’t even imagine I could love biological children any more than I love my stepchildren.
Stepparents tend to get a bad rap, but the fact is, there are a lot of loving stepparents out there who don’t get the credit they deserve. It’s only the bad stories we hear about in the news, and rarely the stories of people who get up every day and parent children who don’t biologically belong to them. One famous stepfather is the actor Kurt Russell, who has been in a long partnership with actor Goldie Hawn. Together, the two have raised a blended family of “yours, mine, and ours.” One of their most famous children is the actress Kate Hudson. Kate and her brother, Oliver, consider Kurt to be their dad and they’re very devoted to him.
Kate and her brother Oliver are estranged from their biological father, Bill Hudson, most of the time. Oliver has described Hudson as a dad who abandoned his children, and the elder Hudson has even requested that Kate and Oliver no longer use his surname since they seem to be so attached to Russell. Kate has been known to sing her stepfather’s praises on more than one occasion. Here is a post she put up on Russell’s birthday.
Here’s a video of Kate discussing her relationship with her biological father and Kurt.
