Jimmy Fallon, Carly Rae Jepsen, & The Roots Sing ‘Call Me Maybe’ With Classroom Instruments

When it comes to the music business, the number one trait anyone has to have, regardless of talent, is perseverance. The world is filled with could-have-been superstar artists who encountered a few roadblocks and decided to quit their dream and settle for something more “practical.” I believe that for every talented singer like Adele, Lady Gaga, or Pink in the music business, there are perhaps dozens if not hundreds of equally talented artists in the world who gave up on themselves. But, don’t think that I’m taking the harsh impact of adversity lightly. As someone who had watched family members pursue careers in music, I know first hand about the crushing lows that come with having doors slammed in your face (sometimes literally).

One person who made a choice to persevere despite falling short a few times is Carly Rae Jepsen. In 2007, Jepsen finished third on Canadian Idol. Now, folks, I can’t tell you how many singers I’ve watched on American Idol over the years who I thought would go on to have brilliant music careers despite being eliminated. However, most of those folks never did anything else with their careers, despite having such a huge springboard. However, Jepsen did not simply rest on her laurels and accept that 3rd place on Canadian Idol was “good enough.” She kept at it until she released her hit single “Call Me Maybe,”  a song that reached number one on the charts in 18 countries, including the US and earned her nominations at the 55th Annual Grammys for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.  In this video, we see Jepsen performing her hit song “Call Me Maybe” with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots in a small room as everyone uses classroom instruments to create the music.

At this time, Carly Rae Jepson is worth an estimated 15 million, and she’s still growing and persuing many different passions, including acting. Who knows? As long as she keeps pushing, maybe an academy award awaits in her future?
