After over 30 years in the industry, Garth Brooks has grown to be one of the biggest figures in country music history. He started his career back in 1985, after tons of hard work he found he finally broke through in 1989 quickly becoming the pop phenom with such hits as “The Thunder Rolls,” “Friends in Low Places,” “Unanswered Prayers,” and “The Dance.” However, in 2000 the country music industry was floored when Brooks announced his retirement that fall. Brooks told his adoring fans that he wanted to spend more time raising his family. Capitol Records reported that Brooks had, by that time, sold more than 100 million records in the United States alone. But, in 2014, the country legend decided to release his first album in 13 years, titled “Man Against Machine.”
During his comeback year, Brooks paid a visit to Ellen to discuss his new album and what’s going on in his life. Back in 1999, Brooks was one of the very first country music stars to throw their support behind gay rights, so it was evident that Ellen had a great deal of respect for this incredible artist. Brooks and Ellen exchanged a couple of jokes before he began singing his first song, “Aint Going Down Til The Sun Comes Up,” which was one of his popular hits from his 1993 album “In Pieces.” But, soon, he switched gears to more of a personal and heartfelt song called “Mom.” The song is about God telling an unborn child about his mother, and Brook’s simple acoustic melody gave the tune even greater emotional depth.
Soon, the audience, along with Ellen herself, had tears streaming down their faces as their hearts were gripped by Brooks’ emotionally raw and mesmerizing performance.
