Footage of Lady Gaga Before She Was Famous Performing ‘Captivated’ and ‘Electric Kiss’ In Singing Contest

When she was in college, the incomparable Lady Gaga was a victim of extreme bullying. Her classmates, likely jealous of her talent, actually created a Facebook group and named it “Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous.” Of course, Stefani is Lady Gaga’s real name. Well, the laugh’s on them, you could say. Lady Gaga is one of the most successful entertainers of her generation. Someone unearthed a rare video of Lady Gaga singing at a singing competition during that era at the very college where she was bullied. In the video below, Lady Gaga plays two pieces that she composed herself, according to the young man who introduced her as “Stephani Germanotta.”

When Lady Gaga was done playing, the announcer seemed genuinely stunned and said, “Hello? Were you guys listening to that? Did you hear that? There was this girl on stage a minute ago, with a piano. And she was playing it and singing. Were  you guys listening?” One of the judges said, “Oh my God, she’s fantastic. Let’s give it up! I have chills again. You know, technically, that girl, she can blow, she can play.” She continued and said, “I’m going to give that demo to my record label.” Another judge added, “Norah Jones, look out!”

This is pure Lady Gaga. There’s no flash costume, elaborate wig, or tons of background singers and dancers. This is just a talented young woman, her voice, and the piano. However, even stripped down, Gaga is Gaga, and she is brilliant. You can also see what an excellent piano player she is, something we don’t always get to see with her current performances. I wonder if everyone there that night knew they were witnessing something really special? One commenter on the video said that she was in the audience that night, and she said even then, “this girl should be famous with that voice.” She was right. One commenter had a consoling comment for young Stefani. “Well, don’t give up Stefani, maybe you’ll have better luck next year.” Best thing ever.

One line near the end of her song goes, “I’m gonna change the world with my lips.” And indeed she has. Watch this amazing video below. We’re so happy it’s out there on the internet for all of us to see genius in its raw state.
