Celine Dion Joins the Legendary Bee Gees to Sing Duet of ‘Immortality’ at Las Vegas One Night Only Live

The Bee Gees were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. That same year, the legendary group that has been together since the Gibbs brothers were teenagers produced “One Night Only,” a unique live album. The songs from the album were recorded live when the group sang at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada and featured many hits from the bands four decades of recording, from the 1960s through the 1990s. One of the songs features included a touching tribute to their baby brother, Andy Gibb, whose life was cut short when he was in his 30s. Andy Gibb had planned on joining the Bee Gees the following year, but his death put an end to that dream for the brothers Gibb. The Andy Gibb song the brother sang was “Don’t Throw it All Away,” one of the younger brother’s hit songs. During the song, they showed vintage footage of Andy that included him singing the second verse of the song.

But for one special song, the Bee Gees invited an extraordinary guest out onto the stage to sing with them: the legendary Celine Dion. At the time, she was riding the success of her second album, “Let’s Talk About Love,” which was the second smash hit album she had recorded. One of the top songs on her hit album was a song called “Immortality,” and that’s the song she performed with the Bee Gees on that special night. The Bee Gees had actually written the song for the stage musical Saturday Night Fever in 1996, and Celine recorded it in June 1997. In her cover, the Bee Gees sang backup vocals. For one night in Las Vegas, the group of friends got together again for the first live performance of this song together.

Although this amazing concert was supposed to be the Bee Gee’s last live concert and a farewell concert, Barry Gibb insisted that they expand the tour and play just a few more shows. He was suffering from arthritis, and it was hard for him, but he soldiered on. The crowd goes wild when Celine Dion comes onto the stage.
