Woman Charged $40 For Crying During Visit To New York Hospital

It can be difficult when you have to go to the hospital. There’s a lot of stress on you and nobody is ever really sure how they are going to react.

When one woman went to the hospital in 2022, her big sister decided to post what really happened on YouTube. It was a moment that took everyone by surprise, because her sister was charged for crying when visiting the hospital.

As many of you are probably aware, you can be charged for almost anything during a medical visit. When you are in an emergency situation and nothing is in your control, this is doubly true.

A good example of this is what happened to Camille Johnson’s sister. She is the one who got charged for crying out of frustration when dealing with a serious medical situation.

Camille said that her little sister was at the hospital for an issue that was ongoing. She said: “My little sister has been really struggling with a health condition lately and finally got to see a doctor. They charged her $40 for crying.”

“She has a rare disease so she’s been really struggling to find care. She got emotional because she feels frustrated and helpless.

“One tear in and they charged her $40 without addressing why she is crying, trying to help, doing any evaluation, any prescription, nothing.”

People went absolutely insane when they heard that there was a $40 charge. Camille offered some perspective because they charged more for crying than they did for her vision assessment test.

“They charged her more for crying than for a hemoglobin test. They charged her more for crying than for a health risk assessment. They charged her more for crying than for a capilary blood draw.”

Many of the people who responded were outraged by the situation. There were others who said they had something similar happen to them.

A medical billing coder also jumped in on the conversation and offered some interesting facts.

There’s a lesson to be learned here. I haven’t quite figured out what it is but there is definitely a lesson.
