There are not very many restaurants to visit when you find yourself in Kewaskum, Wisconsin. You might even find yourself on the way to Dairy Queen to get an ice cream, but there is something waiting there for you.
The Dairy Queen restaurant has posted a message in the front window that declares the restaurant is ‘politically incorrect.’ Moreover, they are not offering to apologize for their step away from what many people would consider to be PI but rather, they are proud of it.
They use holiday greetings, such as Merry Christmas and Happy Easter, and may say God bless America. They appreciate veterans and offer them complementary treats while expressing gratitude for what they have done.
The man behind the restaurant in the sign is Kevin Scheunemann. It has actually been in the window for about four years and he is very transparent about his feelings on the subject.
Originally, he put the sign up because a customer was complaining about Christian music playing in the restaurant. The sign hasn’t caused any other issues since that time.
When someone from Oregon came through town and took a picture of the sign to post on Facebook, it got a lot of additional traction. Eventually, the post was taken down but there were a lot of opinions flowing about.
Some people take offense and voice their opinions about what it has to say. Many local business owners, however, are in agreement and support his decision, saying that the customers don’t have to stay if they don’t like what the sign says.
Most people who live in the area accept the fact that it is a reflection of what the owner believes in. Dairy Queen, however, as said that they don’t endorse his approach and say that the franchisees and staff members are obligated to be respectful and treat customers with decency.
