We Have Lost A Beloved ‘Deadliest Catch’ Deckhand

When a person becomes famous, they are known by millions of people so it’s little surprise that when they pass away, it affects many more outside of their close circle of family and friends.

One show that has been very popular in recent years is “Deadliest Catch”. Unfortunately, one of the men who worked on the show for 16 years, Nick Mavar has passed away at the age of 59.

Nick was a fearless worker aboard the F/V Northwestern, so much so that he was considered to be the right-hand man for the boat captain. He was dedicated to his job and supported everyone on board, which made him a vital part of the crew.

On the day that Nick passed away, emergency workers from Naknek, Alaska responded to a distress call. They tried to save him, but unfortunately, he was not able to make it.

The TV series known as ‘Deadliest Catch’ shows what it is like for individuals fishing for crab in the Bering Sea. The Alaskan King Crab Is highly prized, and those who are willing to battle the elements and the treacherous waters are richly rewarded.

It is considered to be one of the most difficult occupations with extreme hazards. Those who are on board the ships are under a constant threat of death.

The show got its start on April 12, 2005, and people have been watching it ever since. As reality shows go, it really gets to the heart.

In the past, Nick has also struggled with difficulties associated with the show. This included filing a lawsuit against his employer in 2022 after he suffered from a ruptured appendix. They then found a cancerous tumor in his appendix, which made the situation even more difficult.

There has been no resolution to the ongoing case as of now.

We will remember Nick for being the dedicated deckhand he was and a friend to many on board. He was committed to what he did and those who knew him recognized that he would not have wanted to do anything else.
