When it comes to entertainment, I’m sure that we each have our own favorite thing to do. In some cases, it may be just sitting on the couch and watching Netflix for the evening but in other cases, it could be getting out and doing something active. Unfortunately, for many people, the evening out doing something active is not happening as often as he used to. At one time, we didn’t have electronic devices and other items that kept us busy while sitting down and we had to get up and move around in order to have a good time.
As far as active evenings are concerned, one of the things that used to be very popular is rollerskating. Many people still enjoy rollerskating when they have the opportunity to do it but it just isn’t as popular as it was at one time. For those of us who are old enough to remember those special times spent on the rollerskating rink, there was something particularly special about it. I’m talking about the music that was playing and often, it really set the tone for what we were doing when we were out on the floor. It’s also music that we tend to remember down to this day.
One of the times in which rollerskating was popular was back in the 1970s. It was also a time when they wrote some rather interesting music and as they sometimes say, they just don’t make music like that anymore. Folk music was very popular and it is also popular today, but it just doesn’t seem to be the same.
One of the folksongs that was popular back in the 1970s was ‘Brand-New Key’ by Melanie. Most people who remember the song continue to call it the rollerskates song and it was incredibly popular back in the day. It even spent some time at the top of the charts in 1971! The song may not play as often anymore but it isn’t lost forever. You can hear it for yourself in the following video:
