In today’s politically charged world, you can’t do anything without having somebody disagree with you. One US Sen. is finding this out all too well.
Democrat Senator for Arizona Mark Kelly recently went to Ukraine and paid them a visit after some talk associated with possible peace with Russia came forward. It seemed like a decent thing to do but not everybody was happy with it.
Thinking back to the time just a week or so ago when Donald Trump had the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office, things didn’t go well. They ended up bickering at each other and Trump warned that he was ‘gambling with World War III’.
Musk, who is in Trump’s back pocket at this time heads up the Department for Government Efficiency. He also has a political voice and has been critical of Ukraine since Trump took office.
After Kelly went to Ukraine, he left a message on Twitter. It said: “Just left Ukraine. What I saw proved to me we can’t give up on the Ukrainian people. Everyone wants this war to end, but any agreement has to protect Ukraine’s security and can’t be a giveaway to Putin.
“Finally, if we stand with Ukraine they will be there for us. This country has a fighting spirit and a depth of experience and kickassness unmatched anywhere in the world today. These are the people you want in your corner. My goal in the Senate is and will continue to be to keep us out of wars.”
Kelly did say that he wanted Americans to ‘stay out of the fight’ but he also mentioned that if things were reversed and the war was taking place in the United States, the ‘first call I’d want to make is to our Ukrainian friends’.
He also gave some details about his trip to Ukraine, and Musk had a comment about it. In short, he called Kelly a ‘traitor’.
After that comment, Kelly was not going to sit back and take it quietly. He came back with some comments of his own, saying: “Traitor? Elon, if you don’t understand that defending freedom is a basic tenet of what makes America great and keeps us safe, maybe you should leave it to those of us who do.”
It will be interesting to see if this one continues to escalate.
