Emma Watson has officially been banned from driving after getting caught speeding in Oxford. She was clocked doing 38mph in a 30mph zone on the evening of July 31 last year.
The incident landed her back in court, even though she didn’t show up for the hearing. It only lasted five minutes and took place at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on July 16.

Watson, who’s now 35 and studying for a master’s in creative writing at Oxford, hasn’t appeared in a film since the 2019 version of Little Women. She’s been enrolled at the university since 2023.
District Judge Arvind Sharma didn’t go easy on her. Watson already had nine points on her license, and the new speeding offense added three more, which triggered a six-month ban.
She was also fined $1,400. The court made it clear her status didn’t factor into the penalty.

It turns out she wasn’t the only Harry Potter actor in court that day. ZoĆ« Wanamaker, who played Madam Hooch in the first film, was also caught speeding.
Wanamaker was going 46mph in a 40mph zone on the M4 in Newbury. That happened on August 7 last year, about a week after Watson’s incident.
She had also built up nine points before the new offense. With the extra three points from this latest one, the court gave her the same six-month ban and a $1,400 fine.
