Tom Jones is not only known for his music, he is also known for being the judge on one of the more popular talent shows on television. It was back in the 60s, however, when he first became famous.
Tom Jones was so famous in the 1960s that he had his own variety show, ‘This Is Tom Jones’. It was on TV between the years 1969 and 1971 and had performances, not only from Tom but from some of the biggest artists of the time.
Some of the individuals who showed up on his variety show included Cher, The Who, and Nancy Sinatra. There was one particular episode, however, that is well worth watching today.
Janice Joplin, one of the greatest singers from the 1960s was on his show and the two of them stood up to sing a song together. Of course, Janis Joplin is always full of energy but she had Tom Jones going as well, and the two of them put on quite a show.
Tom Jones may not have been into rock ‘n’ roll in the same way as Janis Joplin, but the two of them went together very nicely. Her raw voice along with his powerful stage presence made it a very popular event.
The song that was chosen for the two of them to sing was ‘Raise Your Hand’ and it was not only popular then, it is popular today. After being uploaded on YouTube, it has more than 14 million views and still going.
