We have become accustomed to seeing talented individuals in recent years. Thanks to talent shows, such as America’s Got Talent or people posting videos on YouTube, we are introduced to those who may never have had the opportunity to be in the spotlight.
When you really stop to think about it, however, talented individuals have been around a lot longer than the Internet or the new wave of television talent shows. Looking back a few decades, we see some talent that was beyond amazing, and you get to see it on YouTube.
You probably have never seen this duet before, but is one that is well worth considering. It is the team of Janis Joplin and Tom Jones, and more than 11 million people have watched it on YouTube.
The performance is of ‘Raise Your Hand’ from the 1969 television show, This Is Tom Jones. Joplin has her usual powerful style and amazing stage performance and she is standing with Jones for a very soulful rendition of the classic.
When the song starts, you can’t help but notice that Jones is simply carried away with the power of Janis Joplin’s voice. He then mustered up the strength to join for the chorus and the chemistry is unmistakable.
Both Tom Jones and Janis Joplin have their own style and although they don’t match, they certainly do blend together well. This is just a little piece of history that the world should never forget.
