This Unforgotten Item Was Something Your Grandmother Used Every Day

History has a way of surprising us. At times, we may see something that we don’t recognize and little do we know that it was a part of everyone’s life just a few decades ago.

In this particular case, there was a small piece of metal that may look unassuming, but it was something that many people who enjoyed home decor and their privacy used every day. It’s a part of days gone by, but it is one that still deserves our consideration.

I’m talking about the small, unassuming piece of metal that was known as a curtain hook. These unusual little items were a part of many living rooms, family rooms, and even bedrooms because they help keep the curtain in place.

It’s true that in modern days, this particular mechanism is not used any longer. More modern fixtures are now found in almost every home but despite the fact that it is no longer in use, it is still a reminder of something that was a detail found in almost every home.

When this little item was found in somebody’s home, they had no idea what it was. In fact, they asked: “Fell out of one of my dad’s record sleeves… dangerous roach clip or dated 70s hair accessory?”

That was a legitimate question, because it is difficult to know what you are seeing when you find it. In today’s world, technology is bringing about changes faster than most of us can keep up so a simple curtain hooks seems as if it is something that would disappear just as quickly.

The fact is, these were used so frequently that you will still find them in boxes in almost every attic. It’s just a matter of the way that the landscape continues to change as far as home decoration and that type of living is concerned.

The next time you find one of these little metal pieces, don’t be too quick to throw it away. It may not have a use in today’s world, but it’s an interesting piece of history that should not disappear without any consideration.
