When you think about robots, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Perhaps you might think about a movie, such as i-robot. It’s always a little bit frightening when you think about the possibility of robots taking over and for years, some people have been sounding the warning about the possibility of it happening. Then again, technology has not slowed down, and if anything, it is growing leaps and bounds. Perhaps that is why we are not really surprised to see a new robot that is not only growing leaps and bounds, he is jumping leaps and bounds and even doing backflips!
The robot was made by Boston Dynamics, and the Atlas robot is seen in a video that is surprising people everywhere. It’s not only showing that the robot can move around the room, the robot is actually doing his own version of parkour! At first, you can watch him jumping from item to item and he even jumps up and down off of the table. At that point, the robot is joined by another robot who is doing something very similar. At the grand finale, however, we see them doing something that is absolutely unbelievable. They both do a backflip off of the box and land on their feet.
Admittedly, this is not free running but rather, it is a routine that was programmed into the robots so that they could do something very specific. We still have a long ways to go before they are able to move on their own and make those types of decisions but until then, this is certainly interesting.
