There’s a Bizarre New Monkey Tail Beard Trend

I’m a man, so I know a bit about being a dude. And one thing I know is that we’re not typically very, um, creative when it comes to how we do our hair, whether it’s on our head or on our face. Guys tend to be slow to change when it comes to fashion and trends, and although beards and mustaches have come and gone and come back again in popularity, we don’t generally get very creative with them. Even the guys who love to have a beard only have a few standard styles that they go with. However, times they are a changing.

The new trend in facial hair is the so-called “monkey tail beard,” sometimes called the cat tail beard. This beard style first became fashionable when a professional baseball player named Mike Fiers tried it out and modeled it. When he stepped onto the field during a baseball game in September 2019, he had his own special monkey tail beard, which he later said was just a joke. However, it caught on and guys are loving it. Maybe it has to do with just the crazy year we’ve had for the last 11 months or so, but maybe men are ready to get creative. The ladies have been doing it, so why not us, right?

This beard starts as a sideburn on one side of a man’s face, and then runs all the way along the chin and jawline before curling up the side of the mouth and then over the top lip. Pretty snazzy, right? Let’s check out a few of our favorites.
