If there is one thing that we realize when we look at the world around us, it’s the fact that people tend to follow in a certain trend when it becomes popular. It doesn’t matter if it is a fashion trend, a particular type of dancing or even makeup, those types of trends come and go as time goes by. Sometimes the trends tend to come and go so quickly that we wonder if they were ever there in the first place. Thanks to the Internet, however, we have a record of even the worst trends that have passed by.
Online, some trends become very popular and you might even say that they went viral. There are also other trends that are so strange that they also go viral, but they do it for all of the wrong reasons. One of the more unusual things that we have seen, our way in a long time is curly eyelashes. You heard that right, curly eyelashes and it is just as big of a nightmare as what you could possibly imagine. All I can think of is the person who stood in front of a mirror and thought about how good they looked when they tried it out for themselves.
Sofie Peterson is the person who got this trend started and she started it thanks to her Instagram celebrity fame. She is already known for her bizarre looks as a makeup artist and has tens of thousands of followers.
After she curled her eyelashes and posted them on Instagram, she did it with the caption, ‘puberty isn’t over’.
I think it was in poor taste that she posted a picture of curly eyelashes but then she had to make it worse with her commentary.
They don’t really even look like eyelashes, they kind of look like wire mesh pulled from a Brillo pad and pasted on her eyelids.
The Internet has really reacted to what she did since she did it.
makeupbydylanpiper perhaps said it best for all of us when she said ‘IM UNCOMFORTABLE’.
Another user by the name smoochypants, commented, ‘Thanks, I hate it!’
Others were just saying ‘Ew’ or ‘ooooft’. But at least one person said ‘LOVE’.
It turns out that the curly eyelashes are only the beginning of her odd-looking makeup pictures.
Would you even blink with this look?
Sofie gave an interview and talked about her makeup art:
‘I want people to feel something when they see my beauty looks, whether it’s inspired or disgusted. I want to show emotions and tell stories and joke around. I like that my Instagram is a place that can contain different expressions.’
She’s no dummy, she knows she is on the edge and it has made her popular. This latest trend, however, makes my eyes itch.
She has used everything from crayons and safety pins to toothpicks and says that it comes from the lack of variety in makeup in the Danish suburb where she lives.
Check out this look:
I could see me poking my own eyes out if I tried this. A little glue here or there is fine but this is a little too close to those sensitive organs.
Here is a vegan look that she finds interesting.
Sophie says that her designs are a type of therapy:
‘What I want people to feel after visiting my Instagram, is to be encouraged to just put whatever they want on their face and own it! Do whatever you want, you just have to feel awesome and be confident about it.’
Social media is a strange place but people use it to get creative. Let’s just keep things in perspective.
