When we are in a relationship, we often think that we have everything figured out. We tend to look at things on the surface and judge things by what we see, but we also try to see what is behind the scenes as well.
Not every situation is going to be straightforward and at times, there may be things taking place that we don’t know and it can affect the relationship we share. Coming to a realization of what actually is taking place can go a long way in helping to keep things together.
This is something that we see in the following story and when the relationship started to fall apart, it seemed as if all was over. That was, until the voice of reason spoke. Read on to find out more about how they handled a critical situation.
The kids were in bed, and Matt decided to take a shower while his wife was in their bed, passing time on her iPad. As he was about to relax, he slowly started to hear his baby’s cries. Then his 3-year-old son started to call his father.
When Matt left the bathroom, he checked Alice, and found her in the bed, glued to the iPad.
Matt asked his wife why she didn’t calmed him down, and Alice stated that she tried three times and then let it go.
When Matt went into his son’s room, “Daddy, I made a mess,” Jake said, as his body was shaking. He was crying. Matt tried to calm him down as he said that it was okay. He then cleaned the mess.
Jake was wet. But it was not water or pee. It was a thick liquid. When he turned on his phone’s light, he was petrified. The whole room was scattered in red. At first his heart skipped a beat as he thought it was blood.
Then he realized that it was only paint. It was relieving. Jake was still shaking in his arms. He tightly hugged to his son and calmed him down.
“Why didn’t Mommy come help you?”
“Mommy didn’t check on me. Nobody checked on me.”
Then Matt took his son into the bathroom and cleaned him. He then put clean clothes on him. He then took Jake to the living room. He went upstairs and talked with Alice, as he was angry. He confronted her. Alice was not seeming as she cared.
When the morning arrived, Mat packed some stuff for himself and his son, and went to his sister’s house. At there, he called his mother-in-law. He then explained the situation.
The MIL stated that she will talk with Alice. Few days later she called Matt again and stated that Alice was not in a good place mentally. The MIL suggested that her daughter was in depression.
Matt was shocked. He never thought of that. He was so focused on his son and the situation that ne didn’t noticed.
“The pressure of motherhood, losing time for herself, for her art. It’s been overwhelming for her. She feels trapped, like she’s lost who she is.” MIL said.
Then explained that she will see a therapist but she needed Matt’s help too. After that phone call, Matt immediately returned back home, and without letting Alice apologize, he hugged her tightly and apologized.
Then Alice broke down crying. She cried for an hour in Matt’s arms. The next day, Matt took his wife to a family therapist to overcome their problems.
