We have become accustomed to seeing supermodels but that wasn’t necessarily always the case. They did have a beginning, and the ‘first American supermodel’ is one to keep in mind.
Cheryl Tiegs, the all-American beauty is someone that became a household name when she became popular in the 1970s. She worked in the fashion industry and set the standard, getting the road ready for anyone who would follow after her.
It started when she was on the cover of Glamour magazine at the age of 17. Although most celebrities would be done within just a few years, she was back on the cover of Time magazine when she was 31.
In 1996, she even made it into Sports Illustrated’s famous swimsuit issue and it was the fourth time that she was in it. She was really paving the way for others by doing so.
Eventually, as is the case with all supermodels, her career did begin to wind down but she went right into her next career move, being a mother. She had fraternal twins on July 1, 2021, who were born via surrogate. She was married to Rod Stryker at the time and already had a nine-year-old son.
When she was 53 years old, she was busy doing the things that a mother of newborn twins would do. It was something that she absolutely loved.
She said: “I love the way my life has unfolded. My grand, Elektra, always sticks out her pretty little pink tongue when she smiles.”
Many models will eventually have some work done to try to bring back their youth but she decided to age naturally. She embraced her wrinkles and showed that it was possible to have timeless beauty.
One time she was asked if being an icon made her feel older and she said: “Nothing makes me feel older. Only I know all of the years of insecurity and the hard work that have gone into what I’ve done.”
In talking about her career, she said: “I was being paid a lot of money to do something that I enjoyed doing. You can’t just hope that it happens; you really have to make the effort.”
She has kept yourself healthy by eating the right foods, getting some exercise, and staying happy. She has also changed her routine as necessary as she got older.
It’s good to celebrate her life and to think about all that she offered. Take a look at her through the decades and you will see what it looks like the age naturally.
