Family dynamics are always unusual but we are not often privy to what goes on inside of the family unless we were part of it. When it comes to the royal family, however, we also know more than what we would if they weren’t in the public eye.
One thing that we recognize about the royal family is that Kate Middleton has been a very positive addition. In fact, the relationship she has with Queen Camilla is one that is often looked at as being mutual admiration and respect.
Over the years, Camilla has had her difficulties with public backlash after her affair with Prince Charles was made public. Charles did not want similar things to happen with Kate Middleton as she was preparing to join the Royal family.
It seems as if Camilla was very welcoming to Kate from the moment that they met. She built a relationship with her and tried to do so with both William and Harry, although things didn’t go as well as planned with Prince Harry.
Even before Kate and William were married, Camilla would invite Kate to dinner along with her sister, and neice.
One person who overheard a family conversation said: “They were all getting on very well and they clearly hadn’t asked for an out-of-the-way table and nor did they attempt to lower their voices. There was one moment which was clearly meant to be amusing when Kate said, ‘What happens if William doesn’t turn up?’”
In addition, Kate Middleton received a beautiful bracelet with the letter C engraved on both sides. It is thought that that represented their first names.
When the Queen consort and Princess of Wales were on a balcony during Rememberance Sunday service in 2022, all eyes were on them. The late Queen would stand on the balcony prior to that, so an empty space was left between the two of them in her honor.
A body expert, Judy James, also said that a polite gesture was made toward the queen consort by Princess Kate. She was understandably anxious because of attending the service for the first time and Kate provided the support she needed.
The body expert said: “Watching from the balcony Camilla combined signals of regal duty with some rituals of anxiety. Standing beside Kate, she performed a subtle smile of acknowledgment as her wreath was laid, and as she turned to Kate on their way from the balcony she threw a rather fond smile as Kate spoke to her.
“Camilla smiled at Kate for a second time before nodding, again in a gesture of acknowledgment as she walked ahead of Kate in her new role of Queen. Otherwise, though, there were gestures of open anxiety from Camilla. She looked unable to keep totally still and spoke to Kate at one point but while looking straight ahead rather than turning to her.
“Kate turned her head quickly in a gesture of polite concern. Kate’s calm and very still body language was in contrast to Camilla’s nervous movements that showed the most in the fluttering of her hymn sheet as her two hands fiddled with it throughout.”
It was also thought that Princess Kate was feeling the strain of the moment as well. Things had changed now that Queen Elizabeth had passed away. They now had new titles and responsibilities.
Even Charles was struggling with his emotions during the service. James said: “Charles stood at the Cenotaph as though totally alone and lost in his thoughts. His mouth was pulled down at the corners and his rapid blinking hinted he was close to tears as he remembered his mother as well as those fallen in action.
“There was even a micro-gesture of a small spasm of the lips to show suppressed emotions as they played the Last Post.”
It’s always interesting to see the dynamics within any family and we’re very thankful that the two of them seem to be getting along so well.
