We sometimes hear about students who identify as cats and they may carry it out in a large way. There is now a teacher in Australia who also identifies as a feline.
This high school teacher not only identifies as a cat, but they have been accused of hissing at students and have been seen in class licking the back of their hands. This unusual classroom behavior was witnessed by students, who have posted pictures and videos online.
The teacher can be seen wearing a black and white cat ear headband in class at Marsden State High School in Waterford West in Queensland. The pictures are not only of the teacher in class but also at a school assembly.
According to the students, the teacher wants to be referred to as ‘Miss Purr’ and wears a lanyard with the word purr on it. A relative of a student also said that the teacher hissed at them after they didn’t answer a question properly or pay attention in class.
They said: “The teacher sits in class and licks her hands. It’s absolutely disgusting. Something needs to be done about this.”
Another parent said that they were hoping their child would have a teacher they could look up to but it wasn’t someone who ‘wears ears’.
Another mother said that her daughter was asked to ‘purr’ in exchange for a lollipop.
When the Department of Education heard about this, they said that the behavior ‘wasn’t acceptable in Queensland state schools’.
The statement said: “The school is aware of parents’ concerns and the principal has addressed the issue directly with the teacher.
“Teachers are held to the highest standards of professionalism and ethics.”
