One of the biggest days that we are going to have as a teenager is our prom day. It’s the one day in our lives when we get to dress up and go out for a perfect evening, but things aren’t always exactly what we would expect.
Recently, a young boy named Korben White was making his way to the prom. At 16 years old, it was his time to shine, but most people were not expecting him to wear what he wore.
White posed for the pictures before the prom in a red skirt and sequence-speckled tuxedo top. It went along with his hair, and was perhaps one of the more unique outfits that we’ve ever seen for a young man heading off to the prom.
At age 12 my son announced he wanted to go to his school #prom in a gown. Four years later we made it happen. I’m so incredibly #proud of him for being true to himself & the reception he got from his whole school was incredible. What do you think @michellevisage @theebillyporter pic.twitter.com/lsLKnmY9k5

According to his mother, Nina Green, this was a desire of his since he was 12 years old. She said that ‘he wanted to go to his school prom in a gown.’
Four years later in 2022, the young boy, who goes by the name of Miss Frou Frou decided to make his dream a reality. Green describes her son’s inspiration, saying: “He wanted to go as himself, while expressing his feminine side–with a tuxedo on the top and a dress at the bottom, very much influenced by [American actor] Billy Porter.”
In other words, he ‘wanted to be Korben…but in a dress.’

When he stepped out of the car at the prom, people were waiting for him to cheer him on. He received a round of applause from both students and staff at the school where he goes in Norfolk.
His mother said: “As soon as he got out of the car, everyone just cheered and I was crying, some of the teachers were crying, because he was being who he wanted to be. Everyone has been very supportive, and his year group has been incredible. If you let your child be who they are then you’ll get nothing but the best out of them.”
His mother continues to champion her son and to be supportive. She did so by sending out a message on Twitter along with a few photos of his outfit.
She wrote: “At age 12 my son announced he wanted to go to his school prom in a gown. Four years later we made it happen. I’m so incredibly proud of him for being true to himself & the reception he got from his whole school was incredible.”
Millions of people were supportive of mother and son and complimented her on having such a handsome son.
Others, however, did not have quite the same view. Some were happy for her son but were worried about their own children who have similar viewpoints. They know that bullying is a serious problem.
Others were dismissive of the whole thing and called it vile. They went on to say that she was a failure as a parent for letting him do it. They said: “A 12 year old boy should be playing football and learning to be a man. But, sadly people now a days virtue signal, like what you’re doing with this tweet, and ruin their kids for life. Shame.”
Other people said that there was nothing natural about a boy dressing up like a girl. They went on to say it is just indicative of the world that we live in these days.
Green, however, says that she ignores the negativity when it shows up on any posts that she makes. She is hoping that her decision to encourage her son helps others to grow in their relationship with their own children.
She said: “I really hope it will help others be more accepting, let proud parents feel they are not alone, and that they can celebrate their children, and for young people to know there is a network there if they need it. You need to accept your children for who they are.”
