From the time we are very young, we have a unique ability and we often show it without anyone teaching us how to do so. All you have to do is watch a toddler as they are taking their first steps, turn on some music and the show begins. Suddenly, they are transformed from somebody who can barely stand on their own two feet to a little dancer that is loving the music. They are often smiling from ear-to-ear at the same time. Of course, all of us can dance from a young age but many of us are forced to dance like nobody’s watching. Others, however, are not only talented, they can entertain the world.
The two young sisters in this video are doing a type of dance that is not exactly the most popular these days. Many people are busy following the most popular dances that seem to come and go very quickly. Others, on the other hand, may watch shows such as Dancing With The Stars, and they do their best to emulate what types of dances they are doing. For the two girls in this video, it isn’t a matter of following the latest style, Kaylee and Lauren Thomas have a real passion for clogging. This is a dance that has some pretty old roots that go back to Africa and pre-Columbian America. It was very popular in America and at the time, was known as Appalachian clog dancing.
Clogging is one of those dances that continues to develop over the years. By the time WWI was over, we were entering into a new era and the contemporary dances that were performed at that time included a special version of clogging. In addition, it may have been called by a variety of names, including flat-footing.
The girls in this video show us that this style of dance still has a place in our society and our hearts. As they work their way across the stage in this competition, you will see that they are able to entertain those who were in attendance and all of us who are watching the video.
