We often want to show honor to those who are most important to us. That honor may take on many different forms but when it is a celebrity or a sports star, it may include a physical representation.
Many people really appreciate the abilities of Dwayne Wade, a star of the Miami Heat. They appreciated his abilities on the court so much that they decided a statue should be created in his honor.
That statue was revealed on October 27, and it left many people wondering what they were actually seeing. In fact, many of them went online to express their emotions.
It all started when a video was posted online of the 8-foot bronze statue being revealed. Two of the walls that were concealing the statue were pulled back as the video was rolling.
There was a lot of smoke and some flames that blazed up behind the statue after the reveal. It was an amazing entrance that ended up falling flat.
After the smoke cleared, you could see the figure coming into view. The statue had its arms raised and fingers pointed down and his mouth opened as if it was shouting. It was also wearing a Miami Heat vest with the number three on the back.
If you are a basketball fan, you likely recognize the moment that this statue was representing. It was from 2009, when Wade scored one of the best shots in the history of the NBA.
Under the statue, the plinth reads, ‘This is my house!’ You might also remember that is what Wade yelled after he made the shot.
After the statue was unveiled, it didn’t take long for the video to be posted on social media. Most people agree that if they didn’t know it was Dwayne Wade, they would have a hard time determining who it actually was.
Others were calling the statue ‘unrecognizable’ and others were saying that it was probably not the best idea.
Since all of the comments are coming in, the sculptor has discussed the negative direction things were going. Omri Amrany worked along with Oscar León on the project. He said: “I couldn’t do better than that. I don’t think anybody else can do better than that. It is what it is, and we will love it forever.”
It was also noted that the artists were ‘very proud’ of the work they did on the statue. They would like fans to come down and see the statue in person.
Even Dwayne Wade had something to say about it, saying: “I’m biased, but I think it’s one of the best statues that’s been created because of what it represents for us and for me.”
