Scientists Recently Discover Potentially Habitable Earth-Sized Exo-Planet

Recently, a team of scientists claims to have discovered what may turn out to be the most Earth-like, and possibly habitable exoplanet so far. They say that TOI-700 d is incredibly close to the same mass and size as Earth. Also the planet orbits within the habitable zone of its host star. According to two research papers published in The Astrophysical Journal by Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, scientists who analyzed the distance system marked it as one of the top candidates discovered so far that could someday become Earth 2.0.

They used and continued to refine data collected from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite to conduct deeper analysis on the planet. Researchers said in a third paper published in the journal that the planet may even have a breathable atmosphere and hospitable climate. This is because it is the ideal distance from its star and has water on its surface. Scientists believe that it would take a special project to determine if there is air and water on TOI 700 d. However, since it is extremely far away, these tasks will be easier said than done.

Astronomers only discovered the new planet in January and it is estimated to be one hundred delight years away.

TOI 700-d represents the first Earth-sized planet that has moderate temperatures discovered by NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), reports New Scientist.

It’s also worth mentioning that Michelle Kunimoto, an astronomy student, recently discovered 17 new planets which includes one that’s said to be very similar to our own called KIC-7340288 b.

So far TOI 700 d along with over 60 other planets are candidates that could possibly be supporting alien life, but to know for sure would require a lot more resources, years of exploration, and technology that we do not possess yet.
