Sam Smith Misgendered Repeatedly By TV Presenter

I think that most of us have felt the pressure of needing to remember somebody’s gender when we are speaking about them or to them. It can be awkward, even if we have the best intentions.

There are also times when somebody makes a mistake so frequently that you begin to wonder if it was a mistake to start with. That is what one TV presenter is facing after misgendering Sam Smith multiple times while they were on the show.

As one of the most popular and famous singers today, 32-year-old Sam Smith is somebody who continues to get our attention. They are known for some of the top songs, including ‘I’m Not the Only One,’ ‘Stay with Me,’ and ‘Dancing with a Stranger.’

Sam Smith has gained quite a fan base over the years and they have also faced some criticism. This included some of their ‘satanic’ appearances and a similar performance at the Grammys. They were also criticized for an outfit they wore at the Brits.

Even though they have had their trouble in the past, people are now standing in their corner after a show host misgendered Smith on a TV show multiple times.

Smith is not new to being non-binary, as they shared their preference of pronouns ‘they/them’ after coming out in 2019. They also wrote the following on social media: “After a lifetime of being at war with my gender I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out.

“I understand there will be many mistakes and misgendering but all I ask is you please please try. I hope you can see me like I see myself now. Thank you.

“I am at no stage just yet to eloquently speak at length about what it means to be non-binary but I can’t wait for the day that I am. So for now I just want to be VISIBLE and open.”

It has not been an uncommon occurrence for Smith to be misgendered since publicly coming out as non-binary. Many even corrected Alex Jones after she misgendered them on UK is The One Show last year.

Smith said: “I do love fishing. I’d love to be a fisherthem.”

Jones asked if they meant something like ‘fly fisherman’ but Smith responded: “I’d be any type of fisher-them. One day I’d just like to end my days fishing.”

An Associated Press reporter accidentally referred to Smith using male pronouns as well. It was reported: “Sam Smith has had a lot of controversy around his outfits this past year, I love that he’s continuing to push the mold, love that he’s continuing to break out from the Sam Smith that we knew at the ballads.

“He’s still singing those ballads, but he’s definitely diving fully in, into pop music, and we can see that, not only in his music but also in his looks as well.”

Bob Geldof made the same error on a daytime TV show, This Morning. It was during a live segment, and the presenter was criticized for not issuing the correction.

It has been a recurring issue for Smith, and not one that seems to be going away anytime soon. Of particular note was an incident that occurred on the red carpet at the Barbie Movie.

Smith was looking casual at the event, wearing an oversized sweatshirt and large blue jeans. At the event, Lorraine Kelly said: “Oh, he’s dressed down,” and “It’s a bit big for him. If he was my son, I’d say, ‘Son, that was a bit big for you.’ He looks like the wee shrinking man, bless him.”

On the other hand, Vogel Williams used the correct pronouns when she said that they ‘certainly stand out on the red carpet’.

Many people have come to Smith’s defense on social media, saying that people should get with the program and stop misgendering them over and over.
