Most people expect grace on an ice rink or a stage, not on rollerblades. But when Sofia Bogdanova skates, that assumption falls apart quickly, because her control and timing feel closer to ballet than anything usually seen on wheels.
The video was filmed at the Slalom open competition in Shanghai in 2017. She wears a dark blue dress, and as she moves through the cones, the fabric follows her motion while she stays precise and tightly controlled.

A large part of the routine is performed on her toes, which makes it even harder to believe what you are watching. She glides as if the wheels are an extension of her feet, and it becomes obvious why she won that year and again the year after.
Sofia was born on August 6th, 2005, in Moscow, Russia. She started ice skating at four years old, and a few years later, that early training naturally shifted into roller skating, where her talent became clear.
Being a prodigy did not mean taking it easy. She practices five days a week, which likely means giving up normal childhood things like play time, parties, and long hours in front of the TV.

That work paid off. Sofia has won the World Slalom Championship six times and the European championships nine times, and she received a Global Child Prodigy Award in 2020 while still very young.
The Shanghai video alone has reached 86 million views and 971,000 likes over five years. One viewer summed it up simply, saying, “Can’t even do this with normal shoes on and just walking…normally. Some people are just born artists. She has found her talent and…she practiced years and years and years.”
