We often have to report the news about the passing of a celebrity. This is something that affects many people, and it happens far too often.
Unfortunately, we again have to announce the passing of a legend in Hollywood who was known and loved by millions. Racquel Welch, known for her iconic roles and natural beauty has passed away at the age of 82.
Steve Sauer, Racquel Welch’s manager spoke to People magazine and confirmed her death. He said that she suffered from a brief illness and then passed away peacefully.
Over a very fruitful career of some five decades, Welch was in more than 50 television series and 30 films. She was one of the most beloved actresses in Hollywood and even started a business selling wigs in more recent years.
Welch was born in Chicago in 1940 and from a very young age, she showed a love of acting. She knew that she wanted to be an actress as a child, but she pursued it and was successful at it.
In the 1960s, she received a part in the film, 1 Million Years BC. She played the part of “Loana the Fair One.” She didn’t really want to play in a ‘dinosaur movie’ but her portrayal of a bikini-clad prehistoric character got the attention she needed.
She spoke about it, saying: “I didn’t think I was going to do it because it was a dinosaur movie, and I didn’t want to be caught dead in a dinosaur movie. But [Fox’s studio head] Dick Zanuck convinced me that it was the right move, assuring me that I would become a huge star. And he was right!”
In 1973, she won a Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy after playing in The Three Musketeers. She would later say that it was one of her best moments in Hollywood.
Throughout the years, Racquel Welch was known for her parts in westerns and a wide variety of other movies and television shows. She also worked in Spain, where many of the Western films originated.
Undoubtedly, we will be remembering Racquel Welch and the impact she had on Hollywood for many years. May she rest in peace.
