One of the biggest stories in recent Royal history was when Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle moved to the United States. They left the UK and royal life behind, striking out for a new country to build a life together.
When Prince Harry left the royal family, he left all of those royal responsibilities behind. Things have been sketchy in the family since then, and it is rumored that there is a lot of tension among the royal family members.
What do you do when you are a prince and you no longer have a home in the country where you used to serve? If you are Prince Harry, you simply buy a vacation home in another country.
That’s exactly what Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did. They purchased a home in Portugal so they could get away from it all. As it turns out, that wasn’t quite as random as it may seem.
Prince Harry has a cousin who already has a vacation home in Portugal, Princess Eugenie. She owns a vacation home on the coast south of Lisbon and visits there with her husband, Jack Brooksbank.
Another reason why they may have chosen to own a home in Portugal was because Meghan Markle could be eligible for a Golden Visa. This would allow her to visit the European Union’s Schengen and since she is a US citizen and didn’t complete the process of getting British citizenship, it would be of benefit to her.
According to some reports, Harry and Megan are close with the other royal couple and they stayed with them when they were in Lisbon recently. Eugenie and Jack also visited Harry and Megan in their California home.
Now that Harry and Megan have been evicted from the Frogmore Cottage, which was given to them in 2017 by Queen Elizabeth II, the purchase of a home in Portugal makes even more sense. Some reports say that King Charles has evicted him, starting the paperwork in 2023.
The couple already lived in California when the eviction took place but they needed to remove their belongings. They left behind some things, including gifts from the Queen.
