Popular 1960s Singer Jane Morgan Dies At 101

Jane Morgan, the American singer known for her smooth, elegant voice and the hit song “Fascination,” has died at the age of 101. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday while receiving hospice care in Naples, Florida, her family confirmed in an interview with the local news.

She first found success performing in Paris nightclubs in the late 1940s, long before many American audiences knew her name. After returning to the United States, her career steadily grew, and by the mid 1960s she had become a familiar face on television and a respected performer.

Morgan appeared on numerous TV variety shows during that era and even performed at the Academy Awards. Over time, she developed a reputation for being polished, graceful, and consistently professional, which helped her stand out during a crowded period in popular music.

She was born Florence Catherine Currier on May 3, 1924, in Newton, Massachusetts. Her musical training began early, and she later studied at the Juilliard School, where she refined the skills that would shape her long career.

Her professional career began in Paris when she sang with the orchestra led by bandleader Bernard Hilda. Performing in both English and French, she quickly gained attention in European nightclubs and built a loyal following, particularly in France.

Her biggest breakthrough came in 1957 with the romantic ballad “Fascination.” The song became her signature and opened the door to American stardom, leading to regular television appearances and performances on major variety programs of the time.

Morgan went on to appear on shows like The Ed Sullivan Show, The Perry Como Show, and The Dean Martin Show. Her fluent French and refined image also helped her connect with international audiences beyond the United States.

Over the years, she recorded dozens of albums that mixed pop music, standards, and show tunes. She performed for several U.S. presidents and at prestigious events, even as her chart success slowed toward the end of the 1960s.

In 1965, she married music manager and film producer Jerry Weintraub, and together they had four children. After stepping away from the spotlight, Morgan lived quietly in Florida, remaining there until her death.
