Police Rescue Abandoned ‘Miracle Baby’ Left In Plastic Bag In The Woods

There is nothing more precious than experiencing the miracle of life coming into the world. Sadly, this miracle can sometimes be too much for some people to handle. Perhaps they are not ready for a child or can’t look after a baby.

Maybe the child’s arrival came at the wrong time in their life, or they simply didn’t want to have a child. But whatever the reason, there is never any excuse to abandon a baby.

Sadly, that’s exactly what happened this week in Georgia, but somehow the “miracle baby” survived and is pulling through.

Police was called to investigate a suspicious package in the woods in Cumming, Georgia during the early morning hours of June 07, 2019. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office responding, and came across a heartbreaking discovery.

Left abandoned in the woods wrapped in a small mat, and then a yellow plastic bag was a newborn baby. It was clear that the baby had been born within hours of her abandonment since she still had her umbilical cord and placenta with it.

However, to their relief, the baby was miraculously very much still alive and kicking! They immediately dubbed her the “miracle baby” and transported her straight to the hospital. Wrapped in a Sheriff’s Officer’s shirt, they checked the little girl’s vital signs and thankfully found that she was mostly unharmed.

The baby has now been given to loving foster parents and has made a remarkable recovery. Named baby India, police released footage of her rescue in hopes of contacting her biological mother or both parents. The department also took the opportunity to remind desperate new parents of the safe haven law that’s active in all 50 states.

“This law allows a child’s mother to leave her baby, up to 30 days old, with an employee of any medical facility including any hospital, institutional infirmary, health center or birthing center in Georgia without prosecution.”

This law makes it much safer for the child, and the parent’s conscience will be clear knowing that their baby has a safe home, whether or not that person or persons can care for the child.

We often expect to hear about these types of stories in underdeveloped and rural parts of the world. However, this problem goes way beyond the borders of third-world countries.

Unfortunately, baby abandonment is still a much too common practice all over the world. In 1993, The Los Angeles Times published an article which stated that at least 22,000 babies abandoned at hospitals each year, and newborns make up about 65 percent of all cases. A large percentage of these newborns also tested positive for drugs.

In 2012, an article published by the Daily Beast chronicled the growing crisis of abandoned babies in Europe.

“Unless a solution is reached, children and families continue to suffer for their new poverty,” says Luca Taborelli, who runs the Greek arm of the joint program. “This is especially important with small children because parents were no longer able to feed them.”

Please tells us what you think of this miracle baby and her circumstances. Share your thoughts in the comments, and be sure to share this story with your family and friends.

Also, if you have a child in your life be sure to give them a warm hug and remind them how much they are loved, as too many children never have a chance to experience this basic human need.
