Our hearts truly went out to Freddie Freeman when his 3-year-old son got sick. The first baseman for the Dodgers went on the family emergency list at that time.
Only three months after his son was sick, Freddie Freeman is back and he was even named the MVP of the World Series. After the series was over, he was asked about his son and what he said touched the heart of many.
Freddie Freeman’s son, Maximus suffers from Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS).
Freeman had a lot to say about the journey and his role as a parent. As a result, parents everywhere were thankful about what he said.
After the rare autoimmune disorder caused his son to be hospitalized, he said: “I would gladly strike out with the bases loaded in the Botton of the ninth inning in Game 7 of the World Series 300 million times in a row than see that again.”
He went on to say: “He’s on his way. It’s going to be a long road.”
Social media was buzzing about how he handled the situation. It was a lot of pressure, considering where they were in the playoffs.
Commenters were talking about how they were now a fan of Freeman, even if they were fans of a different team.
Another commenter spoke about how he had to overcome a lot in the postseason and how nobody deserved the MVP more than he did.
Freeman was placed on the family emergency last on July 27 so that he could stay with his son. His wife, Chelsea Freeman continues to share updates.
In an Instagram post, she announced that he had been diagnosed with GBS.
That is a rare neurological condition is especially rare in children. The Mayo Clinic says it occurs when the body’s immune system attacks the nerves, potentially leading to weakness, numbness, or paralysis.
Before he was diagnosed, his mother explained that he “rapidly declined and went into full body paralysis.” She spoke about how they were fortunate to get him to the hospital in time to have his lungs supported.
They know that it is going to be a journey to recover but they have faith that they will get through it. We wish them the best.
