One of the longest-running movie series of all time is James Bond. It just seems as if it keeps getting better and better as time go by.
Every once in a while, however, a replacement has to be found for James Bond and it has not been easy to find a replacement for Daniel Craig. There is now a new star on the horizon, however, and the new Bond is rumored to be Cillian Murphy.
After winning an Oscar for his performance in Oppenheimer, Murphy became one of the most desirable men in Hollywood. As far as playing James Bond, however, not everybody is on board with it.
The Sun reports that Murphy’s portrayal of J Robert Oppenheimer got the attention of the executives who care for the Bond movies. They are currently looking for a successor for Daniel Craig, and Cillian is the talk of the town.
This isn’t just something that would benefit the actor, the entire Bond franchise would benefit because he is currently at the top of his acting career. That doesn’t mean, however, that he is a shoo-in for the role.
Barbara Broccoli, a producer for James Bond has been looking at Cillian to see if he is ready for the role. Decisions have not been made yet and the 26 Bond movie is not yet starting until sometime late in 2025.
Cillian’s costar, Clay Bunker has been very vocal about his support for Murphy taking the part as 007. He calls him the ‘nicest human’ but also says that he has a dark side.
He went on to say: “We forget that sometimes Bond is like the character [Ian] Fleming created — a pretty dark character. He just happens to be on the side that we call good. Cillian has that ability to tap into that.”
As far as the online audience is concerned, there are some who are disappointed that he is even being considered. Some are saying that he is too old for the part and they should be looking for someone young who would last for a number of movies. Others say he is a great actor but he is no James Bond.
On the other hand, there are fans who are saying that he would be the perfect choice and if he decided to take the role, they are certain he would give an exceptional performance.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens next.
